Mumbai, Oct. 18: Vedanta Limited has announced a massive Rs 1 lakh crore investment in Odisha, marking a significant boost to the state’s ambitions of becoming a half-trillion-dollar economy by 2030. The announcement was made during a roadshow for the upcoming Make in Odisha Conclave 2025, where Vedanta outlined plans to establish a 6 million tons per annum alumina refinery and a 3 million tons aluminium plant. The new facilities will focus on producing green aluminium, powered by renewable energy, positioning Odisha as a future hub for sustainable industrial growth.
The investment will create 2 lakh jobs in the state and unlock opportunities for thousands of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Aluminium, which is increasingly seen as the “metal of the future,” is set to play a crucial role in key sectors such as automotive, construction, power, and railways. As global demand for aluminium is expected to double by 2030, this project is poised to capitalize on the growing need for eco-friendly and sustainable industrial materials.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, speaking at the event, said, “Odisha’s double-engine government is aligned with Prime Minister Modi’s vision for a Viksit Bharat by 2047. This new investment from Vedanta comes at a critical time, reinforcing our commitment to making Odisha a half-trillion-dollar economy by 2030. The upcoming projects will not only create jobs but also strengthen Odisha’s industrial ecosystem.”
Anil Agarwal, Chairman of Vedanta, reiterated the company’s long-standing partnership with Odisha. “Odisha has always been a vital part of Vedanta’s journey. Our new investment is a testament to our dedication to the state’s inclusive growth and industrialization efforts. Under CM Majhi’s leadership, we are confident that Odisha will continue to thrive as a leading industrial hub.”
In addition to the industrial developments, Vedanta’s investment includes plans to establish educational institutions, hospitals, skill development centers, and Nandghars, further enhancing the quality of life for local communities. Rayagada, a key region in the state, is expected to become a major industrial hub, similar to Jharsuguda, driven by Vedanta’s expansion.
This announcement cements Vedanta’s role as a key partner in Odisha’s economic growth and positions the state as a global leader in aluminium production and sustainable industrial innovation.
