AM/NS India sets up two solar-based drinking water units in Odisha

Keonjhar/Sundargarh , Aug 2 : ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India), as part of its flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative Project ‘Trupti’,inaugurated two solar-powered drinking water supply units at Belkundi and Motupadar villages under Keonjhar and Sundargarh district respectively. These will provide access to safe and clean drinking water for the local communities there by enhancing their health and wellness.
The newly installed drinking water unit at Belkundi village, Ward-2, Barbil Municipality near Thakurani mine, directly addresses the community’s need for reliable drinking water. Equipped with a 5000-litre storage tank, solar-powered pumping unit, borewell, and five tap points, the structure will benefit over 220 nearby local community members. The inauguration was attended by Shri Laxman Mohanta, Ex-Councillor of Ward-2, Dr. Vikas Yadvendu, Head – CSR, AM/NS India,Shri Uday Kumar Verma, Head – Security, AM/NS India,along with AM/NS India officials and enthusiastic community members.
Another drinking water unit was inaugurated at Motupadar village, under Malda Gram Panchayat of Koira Block. This solar-powered borewell system will serve more than 130 local community members, reducing the occurrence of waterborne diseases and enhancing quality of life. The inauguration was attended by Shri Ajit Singh, Head – Pipeline Projects, Odisha, AM/NS India along with other representatives from the company and local community members.
The community members were provided with training and orientation sessions on the maintenance and upkeep of the solar water structures. This step is aimed at ensuring long-term sustainability, local ownership, and efficient functioning of the community assets.
These initiatives under Project Trupti align with AM/NS India’s efforts to contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals towards access to clean water and sanitation and towards affordable and clean energy. AM/NS India continues to prioritize community well-being through sustainable infrastructure that makes a lasting impact on the lives of people.
