AM/NS India observes National Nutrition month across Odisha locations

Bhubaneswar, Sep 12 : ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) under its CSR flagship Project ‘Aarogya’ observed National Nutrition Month at its operational locations across Odisha as part of its commitment to the health and well-being of the community. This year’s theme, ‘Eat Right for a Better Life’, aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, which promotes healthy and balanced diets for overall well-being across all age groups. As part of the campaign, awareness sessionswereorganisedacross Paradeep, Sagasahi and Thakurani minesmarking the commencement of the nutrition month.

In Paradeep, awareness session was organised at Nuagarh Gram Panchayat office to promote nutritional awareness, especially among women and adolescent girls.The event was graced by Shri Debendra Rout, Sarpanch,Nuagarhand Dr. Niranjan Diwedi, Medical Officer, Mobile Medical Unit(MMU), Paradeep. Dr. Diwediaddressed the gathering and emphasized the significance of a balanced diet for overall health and development. More than 200 participants attended the programme including Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers,Auxiliary NurseMidwives (ANM) staff, adolescent girls and women of the nearby villages.

A similarawareness session was organised at Sagasahi village with an aim to support Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS),Koida. The event was graced by Smt. Anita Sahoo, Child Development Project Officer, ICDS,Koida, ShriPremananda Mallick, Headmaster, Sagasahi Primary Schoolalong with Dr. Varun Samal, Medical Officer, MMU, Sagasahi. Dr. Samaladdressed the gathering on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. Nutrition packets were distributed to children, expectant mothers, and nursing women to promote healthy dietary habits. These packets were designed to demonstrate how locally available, affordable foods can support maternal and child health.Over 150 participants attended the programme including pregnant women, lactating mothers, preschool children, ASHA and Anganwadi workers, and Matru and Janch Committee members.

In Thakurani mine area, National Nutrition Month was celebrated at the Lok Vikas Kendra, Dalki village with a focus on promoting healthy eating practices and raising awareness on the importance of nutrition for community well-being. Dr. Subrat Dhal, Medical Officer, Health Dispensary, Dalki and Dr. Varun Samal, Medical Officer, MMU, addressed the gathering and highlighted the need for proper nutrition during early childhood and maternal stages, emphasizing its role in growth, development, and overall health. As part of the event, nutrition packets were distributed to children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers to reinforce the importance of balanced diets.Over 50 participants, including pregnant women, lactating mothers, and preschool children, took part in the programme.

AM/NS India aims to extend the programme to over eight villages, reaching more than 1000 community members including women, children, and adolescent girls.Through this expanded outreach, AM/NS India reaffirms its commitment of building healthier, stronger, and more resilient communities across its operational locations in Odisha.
