Sambalpur/ Bhubaneswar, Feb. 22: In a heartwarming celebration of love and community, 20 couples began their new lives together at a mass wedding ceremony organised by the Akanksha Ladies’ Club of JSW BPSL Sambalpur. Held on February 21 at the BPSL Township in Sambalpur, Odisha, the event was a beautiful blend of tradition, unity, and compassion.
For these couples, the dream of a traditional wedding seemed out of reach due to financial hardships. Coming from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, they faced challenges that made it difficult to afford even the simplest ceremonies. Moved by their struggles, the Akanksha Ladies’ Club stepped in to make their dreams a reality.
Neelam Singh, president of the Akanksha Ladies’ Club, shared the heartfelt motivation behind the initiative. “Marriage is a sacred bond, and everyone deserves to celebrate it with dignity and joy. We wanted to ensure that financial constraints didn’t stand in the way of love and happiness,” she explained.
The ceremony was a vibrant celebration filled with music, rituals, and the blessings of around 500 guests, including family members, township residents, local dignitaries, and village sarpanches. The venue was adorned with colorful decorations, creating a festive atmosphere that reflected the joy and excitement of the day.
For the couples, this wasn’t just a wedding—it was a dream come true. “We never imagined having such a beautiful ceremony. We are truly grateful for this support,” shared Sunita and Ramesh, one of the newlywed couples, their faces glowing with happiness.
The Akanksha Ladies’ Club has a history of community service, from supporting local artisans to providing educational aid to underprivileged children. This mass wedding was another inspiring step in their journey of spreading love and unity.
