West Bengal,May 5 :  A man died after allegedly being hit by BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari’s car at Chandipur in Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal on Thursday night, locals claimed. According to locals and an eye-witness, the man, identified as Seikh Israfil, was on the side of the road when the car hit him.

Police are yet to confirm whether the said vehicle was a part of the Nandigram MLA’s convoy, PTI reported.

The Leader of Opposition (LoP) was returning from a party programme in Moina, news agency PTI reported. An eyewitness alleged that the car did not stop even after the accident.

The accident triggered a road blockade by locals for over an hour who blocked the road and protested against Suvendu Adhikari, demanding strong punishment for him.

According to a protester, who also claimed to be an eye-witness, said that he was having tea at a local shop at the time of the accident, just a few metres away from the accident spot.

“The man was on the right side of the road and the convoy was coming from the left side. Suddenly, one of the cars in the convoy moved to the right side of the road and hit the man,” Rafizul Ali told India Today.
