Odisha fake medicine case: Two suppliers arrested from Bihar

Bhubaneswar, sept. 26: Two accused allegedly involved in supplying spurious hypertension medicines to distributors in Cuttack were arrested from Bihar, Cuttack deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Pinak Mishra informed on Sunday.
Briefing media persons over the case, DCP Mishra said the two accused Ashok Mishra and Harish Kumar were arrested from Gaya area in Bihar on Saturday and were being transferred to Odisha on transit remand.
According to the police, the duo used to supply Telma 40 and Telma AM medicines to the two distributors Puja Enterprises and VR Agencies in Cuttack.
“The accused were supplying the fake medicines without any license. Investigation is underway to ascertain whether they were doing business with any other agencies in Odisha,” said DCP Mishra.
The DCP further added that police are carrying out a probe to unearth the source point or the place of manufacturing of the said medicines.
The Odisha health department recently traced that huge cache of Telma 40 tablets and Telma AM tablets distributed to pharma shops in Cuttack as counterfeit under Section-17B (e) of Drugs & Cosmetics Act based on a report received from the original manufacturer.
