Physically-challenged girl molested, accused held

Baripada, April 1: In a shocking incident, a physically challenged minor girl was on Friday night allegedly raped by her neighbour in Deulasahi in Odisha’s Baripada town.

According to reports, the incident occurred when the 11-year-old girl had gone to the Jagannath temple located near her house at around 9 pm.

A youth identified as Munu forcibly raped her at the Snana Mandap after finding the girl alone in the temple.

The matter came to light after few locals rescued the girl near the Snana Mandap within the temple premises.

“I was at shop when came to know about the incident. The condition of my daughter is critical,” said victim’s father.

Following the incident, locals thrashed the youth accused for raping the physically challenged girl, who is studying in standard V.

The police has detained the accused and questioning him, reports said.

“The condition of the girl is critical due to excess blood loss. She is currently undergoing treatment,” said Dr B.K. Baskey, a gynecologist.
