Celebrate Durga Puja with peace, discipline and harmony, says IGP Satyajit Nayak

By IGP Satyajit Nayak

CUTTACK/ODISHA, OCT 5  : Inspector General of Police, Central Range, Dr Satyajit Nayak has appealed to people to celebrate Durga Puja with peace, discipline, devotion and social harmony, stressing the need for cooperation between the police and the public to ensure safe and orderly festivities.

“Let us join hands and celebrate Maa Durga’s Puja with joy, devotion and peace. While the police must abide by all rules and regulations, every citizen should also respect the law and maintain discipline,” Dr Nayak said. He urged people to remain alert and responsible at puja pandals, crowded places, roads and during immersion processions.

He said a coordinated effort by the police, puja committees and citizens was essential to prevent untoward incidents and ensure a safe environment for devotees. Dr Nayak also appealed to people, particularly the youth, to stay away from intoxicants during the festival and strictly avoid driving under the influence. “Durga Puja is a festival of joy and devotion. No one should consume intoxicants and put themselves or others at risk,” he said.

He said police personnel deployed for the festivities should follow departmental rules and the law and maintain courteous and humane behaviour while dealing with devotees and the public. The role of the police, he said, was not limited to maintaining law and order but also included extending assistance to people wherever required.

The IGP also cautioned citizens against rumours and provocative or unverified content circulated through social media. He urged people not to take the law into their own hands and to promptly inform the police about suspicious activities or situations that could affect public order.

“Durga Puja belongs to all of us. Ensuring a safe, peaceful and harmonious celebration is a collective responsibility. When the police and the public work together, the festival can be celebrated with greater joy, dignity and discipline,” Dr Nayak said.
