Puri Police intensifies crackdown on Dadabati after IGP’s directive

By IGP Dr. Satyajit Nayak

Puri/Cuttack/Odisha,  Oct 2 : The publication of the report on Inspector General of Police, Central Range, Dr. Satyajit Nayak’s directive against forced collections and extortion during the festive season has drawn attention to the issue of Dadabati in Puri, with police intensifying vigilance in vulnerable areas of the town.

The report highlighted the arrest of three persons in separate cases during a special drive launched following complaints of extortion. The action has sent a clear message that intimidation of auto-rickshaw drivers, vendors, shopkeepers and members of the public would invite prompt police intervention. Police teams have stepped up patrolling in markets, busy roads and other crowded areas, particularly during the festive season when public movement increases.

The enforcement drive also aims to ensure that vendors, transport workers and visitors can carry out their activities without fear of forced collections. The arrests in the three cases involved allegations of threatening members of the public with weapons and demanding money. Police seized swords and a knife during the operations and forwarded the arrested persons to court. Dr. Nayak’s direction has also underscored the importance of maintaining public confidence and ensuring a safe environment during the festive period.

Police personnel have been asked to remain alert to complaints of intimidation and take appropriate action in accordance with law. The development is expected to encourage members of the public to report incidents of extortion or threats without hesitation. Puri Police has reiterated that its special drive against Dadabati and other forms of extortion will continue and that preventive policing and visible patrolling will remain a priority during the festive season.
