Heavy Rain Erodes Railway Track in Assam-Mizoram Section; Several Trains Cancelled

 Guwahati/aAssam, Sep 4: Heavy rainfall on the evening of September 3 has caused soil erosion near the railway track between Jamira in Assam and Bairabi in Mizoram, affecting train movement along the Katakhal-Bairabi section.

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has commenced restoration work at the affected site and is closely monitoring the situation and progress of the repair operations.

According to NFR, around 70 metres of railway track, extending up to approximately 40 metres from the track centre, has been affected by soil erosion. The absence of direct road access to the site has posed additional challenges for the restoration teams.

Considering the site conditions and accessibility constraints, NFR said that the restoration work may take some time to complete.

Several Trains Cancelled

As a result of the disruption, the following trains have been cancelled:

15609 Guwahati–Sairang Express, scheduled to commence its journey on September 4.

55667 Silchar–Bairabi Express, scheduled to commence its journey on September 4.

13126 Sairang–Kolkata Express, scheduled to commence its journey on September 4.

55668 Bairabi–Silchar Express, scheduled for September 4 and 5.

55669 Silchar–Sairang Express, scheduled for September 4 and 5.

55670 Sairang–Silchar Express, scheduled for September 5.

Two Trains to Originate from Hailakandi

NFR has also announced the short origination of two trains.

Train No. 15610 Sairang–Guwahati Express, scheduled to commence its journey on September 4, will originate from Hailakandi instead. Its service between Sairang and Hailakandi will remain cancelled.

Similarly, Train No. 20507 Sairang–Anand Vihar Terminal Express, scheduled to commence its journey on September 4, will also originate from Hailakandi, with its service between Sairang and Hailakandi cancelled.

NFR officials said restoration efforts are underway and the situation is being closely monitored..
