Bhubaneswar, June 2: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, is stepping up its efforts to strengthen green cover across Kalahandi and Rayagada districts in Odisha through an extensive plantation drive in the Sijimali region ahead of World Environment Day.

The initiative gives a significant push to the company’s ongoing environmental conservation efforts, which have seen thousands of saplings planted across villages and schools in the region over the past year.

Under the initiative “Mo Gachha, Mo Parivar”, more than 1,00,000 saplings were planted in Kalahandi and Rayagada districts. In Sijimali belt, the plantation drive reached across 22 villages and 25 schools in five gram panchayats — Sunger, Talambapadar, Nakrundi, Adajor, and Sindurghati. The drive saw active participation from the local community leaders, school teachers, volunteers, and panchayat representatives.

The plantation programme aims to strengthen the region’s green cover, promote environmental awareness among students and communities, and encourage collective action towards ecological conservation.

Speaking on Vedanta Aluminium’s continued focus on sustainability, CEO, Vedanta Aluminium, Rajesh Kumar said, “At Vedanta Aluminium, sustainability remains central to our vision of creating long-term value for communities and the environment. Through initiatives such as large-scale plantations, biodiversity conservation, and community participation programmes, we are committed to nurturing greener landscapes and building climate-resilient communities across Kalahandi and Rayagada. We will continue to work closely with local stakeholders to drive meaningful environmental impact for generations to come.”

The plantation drive forms part of Vedanta Aluminium’s broader sustainability agenda, which focuses on environmental protection, biodiversity enhancement, water conservation, and climate action. Through concerted community engagement and collaborative environmental initiatives, the company continues to contribute towards a greener and more sustainable future for the region.
