Successful fish and livestock farming enriching rural livelihoods
Empowered farmers are key to India’s development: MLA Laxman Bagh

Kantabanji, Nov. 12: The Turkela Block-Level Fisheries and Animal Resources Fair-2025 was held on Wednesday at the Turkela Government High School playground in Balangir district. The event featured exhibitions on fisheries, livestock, and various departmental schemes, alongside farmer–expert interactions, awareness sessions, and cultural programmes.
Kantabanji MLA Shri Laxman Bagh attended the fair as the chief guest and formally inaugurated the event. Following a ceremonial prayer to “Gau Mata” (mother cow), the MLA interacted with farmers and urged livestock keepers, fishers, and entrepreneurs to take advantage of government schemes to become self-reliant and financially empowered.
During the function, several successful farmers from Turkela block were felicitated with certificates and prizes for their exemplary contributions to fish and livestock farming.
Meenakshi Dandasena of Kandabahal village was honoured for excellence in cow rearing.
Sushant Kumar Bhoi of Rautmunda received the award for best goat farming.
Hemawati Meher of Mehulbahali was recognized for poultry farming.
Biharilal Putel of Tikrapara was felicitated for grass cultivation.
Gafur Dharua of Badbankir received recognition for organic farming.
Bhumisuta Majhi of Kameimunda was awarded for fish pond management.
Mamata Meher of Mehulbahali and Maa Pataneswari Self-Help Group of Jharani were also felicitated for their achievements in fish farming.
Among others present at the event were Turkela Block Vice-President Dhanmati Khura, Sarpanch Sangh President and Sarpanch Jalandhar Mahakud, District Council Zone Member (Zone-11) Kaushik Meher, MP representative Akshay Meher, Sub-Divisional Veterinary Officer (Titilagarh) Dr. Subendhu Sudha Sadangi, and Turkela Block Veterinary Officer Pratap Kumar Pradhan.
The meeting was chaired by BVO Shri Pradhan and conducted by Dr. Mausami Rastra Banani Majhi. The fair witnessed active participation from officials, farmers, and local residents. Turkela Block Assistant Fisheries Officer Om Rana proposed a vote of thanks.
