Four-storey building collapses in Delhi, few trapped under debris, 8 rescued

NEW DELHI, JUL 12 : A four-storey building collapsed around 7:00 am on Friday morning in the Janata Mazdoor Colony of Seelampur, located in northeast Delhi’s Welcome area. The structure came crashing down suddenly, trapping several people under the debris.

According to the police’s official statement, eight individuals have been rescued so far. Seven have been shifted to JPC Hospital while one is shifted to GTB Hospital for treatment. Some are still feared trapped. According to a bystander, eight to ten people used to live in the building, including three children and three women.

The National Disaster Response Force along with Senior Officers along with the Fire Brigade and other agencies are present at the site, and rescue operations are underway. The exact cause of the collapse has not yet been determined.

“Information was received about the collapse of a four-storey building near Idgah. Upon reaching A-Block, Gali No 5 in Janta Colony, the three storeys of the structure had caved in”, police said in an official statement.

Local people helped in clearing the debris after a ground-plus-three building collapsed in Delhi.
