Paradip , July 4 : Work on the innovative Kalinga Maritime Museum, a landmark project set to redefine marine heritage preservation, officially commenced today with a groundbreaking ceremony held at Paradip Port.

The auspicious event was graced by Shri P. L. Haranadh, Chairman, Paradip Port Authority (PPA), who witnessed the beginning of construction. Senior officials from both the Paradip Port Authority and Indian Port Rail & Ropeway Corporation Limited (IPRCL) were also in attendance, marking the significant start of this visionary endeavour.

The Kalinga Maritime Museum is designed to be a testament to both architectural innovation and climatic resilience. Its unique fish-shaped structure will be oriented to face the sea, strategically channeling natural wind flow along its body to the tail for enhanced wind resistance, a crucial feature in this coastal region.

Engineered to withstand the diverse climatic conditions of Odisha, the museum will be robust enough to handle temperature extremes ranging from 80 to 450 C. Furthermore, its design incorporates advanced features to withstand cyclone-level wind speeds of up to 280 km/hr, ensuring the long-term safety and integrity of the structure and its valuable exhibits.

This groundbreaking initiative is a significant milestone for the Paradip Port Authority, demonstrating its commitment to preserving maritime heritage and contributing to smart port development. IPRCL is providing project management expertise for this ambitious undertaking.

The Kalinga Maritime Museum is poised to become a major cultural and educational landmark, celebrating Odisha’s rich maritime history and serving as a symbol of resilience and innovation.
