Recognition of Selflessness: National Doctors’ Day Celebrated with Walkathon at Utkal Hospital

Bhubaneswar, July 2: To honour the unwavering dedication and selfless service of doctors, Utkal Hospital, a leading multi-speciality hospital in Niladri Vihar, Bhubaneswar, marked National Doctors’ Day with a special 3-km walkathon in collaboration with the Rotary Club, Niladri.

The walkathon began from Utkal Hospital, proceeded to Care Hospital Square, and returned to its starting point. It witnessed enthusiastic participation from doctors, nurses, hospital staff, Rotarians, and local residents. The event symbolised collective gratitude towards the medical fraternity for their invaluable role in society.

Speaking on the occasion, B.K. Subodh Singh, CEO of Utkal Hospital, remarked, “Doctors are not just medical professionals — they are beacons of hope in times of crisis. This walk represents our heartfelt appreciation for their tireless service and unmatched commitment.”

Observed every year on July 1st, National Doctors’ Day commemorates the birth and death anniversary of eminent physician and former West Bengal Chief Minister Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, celebrating the enduring contributions of doctors to public health.

The walkathon participants carried placards, banners, and slogans expressing solidarity and respect for healthcare providers.

The celebration was graced by renowned Odia film actress Anu Choudhury, alongside Utkal Hospital’s senior medical leadership, including Dr. Sanjay Mishra, Director and Senior Consultant, Radiation Oncology, and Dr. Ananta Kumar Agasti, Senior Consultant, Chief of Gastroenterology & Hepatology. They shared inspiring messages acknowledging the relentless efforts of the medical community.

Dr. Aditya Kumar Samal, Chairman of Utkal Hospital, conveyed his wishes and gratitude remotely from the USA, while Dr. Pragyan Ranjan Gharai, Managing Director, remarked, “Doctors are divine when it comes to serving humanity,” extending warm greetings to all doctors associated with Utkal Hospital.

The hospital’s Board of Directors also extended felicitations to the medical fraternity. The event concluded with a felicitation ceremony for doctors and contributors. Rotary Club Niladri’s President Surjeet Kumar Raut and Secretary Rakesh Dalai also attended, contributing to the success of the event.
