By Barada Das
Cuttack,Jun 30 : The 124th Webinar of the Thinkers’ Club was held recently to discuss on global peace through the initiative of the Prime Minister of India.
This meeting was presided by Sri Bibek Pattanaik, a retired IAS and senior Bureaucrat from Canada. Sri Barada Prasanna Das, the President of the Club, moderated the meet. Engineer Dr Nanda Nandan Das, Ex Works Secretary, Admiral General Atanu Pattanaik joined as speakers. The two dignitaries discussed on the topic and gave their well composed opinions. They suggested that, there should be a dedicated wing of the UNO to deal with matters related to peace and resolve such issues. They expressed concern over the present wars between Ukraine and Russia. Palestine and Israel. Iran and USA, India and Pakistan. The entire world is under turmoil due to these wars. It is a fact that, wars do not solve any controversy or problem. In the other hand, it aggravates situation and result in loss of life and property. Countries go for war, to satisfy egos, whims of their Supremes. Certain countries wish to establish their supremacy over other countries.
The world has seen two great wars by 1945. There after also many wars were fought. The Vietnam War was a great tragedy of human civilization. Peace in the Gaza strip is not seen for many years. Considering these unfortunate situations, the intellectuals present in the meet on principle accepted the suggestion of Mr Das and Mr Pattanaik. It was also suggested to send a memorandum to the PM, highlighting the discussions.
It was also suggested that, besides political wars relating to the border issues, a major problem is raising its head on economic issues. Uneven distribution of natural resources and wealth is a major issue of war. The business of war supplies like guns, bombs, missiles is a lucrative business these days. It is a hard task to balance between the developed nations and developing nations.
