Under-construction building collapses at Kannauj railway station, several trapped

UTTAR PRADESH, JAN 11 : At least 25 people have been rescued, and several others are feared trapped after an under-construction roof slab collapsed at Kannauj railway station in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, officials said.

Police and rescue personnel, including a team from the State Disaster Response Force, are present at the spot and operations are on to rescue the trapped workers. Out of the 25, nine workers were seriously injured and have been admitted to the hospital.

Kanpur Commissioner K Vijayendra Pandian, who is present at the site, was quoted as saying by news agency ANI, “We hope that no one else is trapped, but we are searching thoroughly.”

Kannauj District Magistrate Shubhrant Kumar Shukl was quoted as saying by news agency PTI that the incident occurred when the under-construction shuttering of the roof collapsed.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took note of the accident and directed officials to immediately reach the site and expedite relief efforts. He also directed the officials to ensure proper treatment for the persons injured in the incident.
