New Delhi/ Bhubaneswar, Dec. 18: Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys Ltd (IMFA), India’s premier fully integrated ferrochrome producer, has teamed up with JSW Green Energy to harness renewable energy for its smelting operations.
In a significant move, IMFA signed a binding term sheet with JSW Green Energy One Ltd and JSW Green Energy Seven Ltd. The collaboration involves an investment of Rs 83.26 crore in a hybrid project combining 50 MW AC solar power and 100 MW wind energy, with a total contracted capacity of 70 MW.
IMFA will secure this renewable energy through a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) as a captive consumer, ensuring sustainable power for its operations.
Speaking on the initiative, Binoy Agarwalla, Vice President and Head of the Power Business Unit at IMFA, stated:
“Renewable energy is pivotal to our mission of reducing our carbon footprint as a pioneer in the ferro alloys industry. This collaboration reflects our commitment to sustainability, leveraging the synergy of solar and wind energy to support a greener future.”
To meet the growing demand for ferrochrome, IMFA is also establishing a state-of-the-art, 100,000-tonne-per-annum greenfield facility at Kalinganagar, Odisha.
