4 dead after lift collapses in under-construction building in Greater Noida

NEW DELHI,SEPT 15: Four people died and five were critically injured after a lift collapsed in an under-construction building in Greater Noida on Friday.

The incident happened in Gaur City where the construction was being carried out by Amrapali Builders.

“Four people have died. Five people are in critical condition and undergoing treatment in a city hospital. Our team is present in the city hospital. Our officers are also present on the site and no one is stranded there. Proper treatment is being given. An investigation is going on…,” said District Magistrate Manish Verma, reported ANI.

The incident happened at Amrapali Dream Valley housing society in Greater Noida west. At 9 am, nine labourers were in the lift when it got stuck between the 8th and 9th floors and later came crashing down, killing four people and severely injuring five others.

Citing negligence, Gautam Budh Nagar DM said strict action will be taken against the builder. This project belonged to Amrapali, which was taken over by NBCC, he said.

The entire project would be evacuated within two hours. Police made the announcement and sealing proceedings will commence soon .
