246 Indians evacuated from strife-torn Sudan land in Mumbai
NEW DELHI,APR 27 : An Indian Air Force aircraft with 246 Indians evacuated from strife-torn Sudan landed in Mumbai on Thursday. The plane, which took off from Jeddah around 11 am IST, landed in Mumbai around 3.30 pm.
The situation has remained tense in Sudan, which has been witnessing deadly fighting between the country’s army and a paramilitary group. India has stepped up efforts to rescue its citizens from the strife-torn African nation.
Under its evacuation mission ‘Operation Kaveri’, the Indian government is taking the evacuees from Sudan to the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah from where they are returning home.

On Wednesday night, a commercial plane carrying 360 Indians rescued from Sudan landed in New Delhi. On Thursday, a second flight carrying 246 Indian nationals evacuated from Sudan landed in Mumbai.
Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra briefed reporters over the ongoing ‘Operation Kaveri’ on Thursday. Kwatra said the security situation in Sudan remains very complex, highly volatile and unpredictable, adding that India’s objective is to get every stranded Indian in that country out of harm’s way.
Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra said approximately 1,700 to 2,000 Indian nationals were moved out of the conflict zones and they included the citizens already evacuated out of Sudan as well as those who are on their way to Port Sudan from capital city Khartoum.
