12 dead in separate wall collapse incidents in Lucknow, Unnao as heavy rain wreaks havoc in UP

Uttar Pradesh, Sept 16:  As many as 12 people have lost their lives in separate wall collapse incidents in Uttar Pradesh, including nine in Lucknow and three in Unnao after heavy rain wreaked havoc in the state.

Nine people, including women and children, died and one person was injured after a wall collapsed due to heavy rain in Lucknow’s Dilkusha area on Friday. Police have reached the spot and rescue operations are underway.

“Some labourers were living in huts outside an Army enclave in the Dilkusha area. Owing to heavy overnight rains, the boundary wall of the Army enclave collapsed,” Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Piyush Mordia told PTI.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the mishap and asked the senior officials to reach the spot.

The Chief Minister has also announced ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the families of the deceased and also gave instructions for proper treatment of the injured people.

Three people, including two minors, died while one was injured after the roof of a house collapsed due to rain late last night in a wall collapse incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao.

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak offered his condolences to the families of victims and offered all possible help.

He tweeted, “Shocked and saddened by the incident of death of many people due to wall collapse in Dilkusha under Lucknow Cantt Assembly. I have given instructions to the officials for relief and rescue work. The state government is providing all possible help to the families of the victims. I stand with the bereaved families in every grief.”

Defence minister Rajnath Singh also offered his “deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this accident.”
