JSP Angul Marks World Environment Day 2025 with Focus on Plastic Reduction and Green Future

Angul : From mini-marathon to plantation of saplings, Jindal Steel and Power (JSP), Angul, organised a series of engaging activities aligned with the global theme, “Beat Plastic Pollution”, to mark World Environment Day 2025. The participants reiterated its commitment for plastic reduction and green future.  Dr Prafula Kumar Behera, Scientist, State Pollution Control Board, Mr. Atul Dubey, President – Steel & Utilities, Mr. Dilip Sinha, CHRO, Yoga Guru Swami Satyabindu Saraswati, Heads of various departments, employees, their families, and local community members enthusiastically participated in the programme.

The programme started with a spirited “Run for Environment” mini-marathon, flagged off by Mr. Atul Dubey, President – Steel & Utilities. This was followed by plantation of more than 500 saplings by the participants.

On the occasion, JSP Chairman and third time MP from Kurukshetra, Shri Naveen Jindal, in a social media post, said “The effects of plastic pollution are far-reaching. It significantly impacts our environment and adds to our carbon footprint through its production and disposal. By cutting down on single-use plastics, choosing reusable options, and encouraging sustainable alternatives, we can all make a meaningful difference.”

Dr Prafula Kumar Behera, Scientist from the State Pollution Control Board highlighted the background and importance of Environment Day and emphasized on the necessity of adhering to statutory requirements to protect the environment.

Mr. Atul Dubey urged everyone to be environmentally responsible and conscious of their actions and commit to preserving a healthy planet for future generations.

In order to foster environmental awareness among the youth, a Children’s Drawing Competition was held for students from Class 1 to 12, divided into three age groups. The young participants showcased their creativity by illustrating their vision of a cleaner and greener planet. Meanwhile, the Ladies’ Essay and Quiz Competition engaged employees’ spouses in thoughtful discussions on environmental issues, strengthening community involvement in sustainability efforts.

The event concluded on a high note with the prize distribution ceremony, celebrating the winners of the Drawing, Quiz, Essay, and Run for Environment competitions. Their outstanding efforts were recognized, inspiring continued enthusiasm and active participation in environmental causes.

In addition to the celebrations at Jindal Nagar Township, an Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) was inaugurated, and a plantation drive was conducted at the Utkal-C Mines area.

Jindal Foundation, the social arm of JSP, also observed World Environment Day at the Jamunali Farmer’s Field School with the participation of 40 natural farmers. The programme featured activities such as an environmental oath-taking ceremony, mass plantation, and distribution of seeds to support natural farming practices. The celebration was graced by the presence of the village president, secretary, sarpanch, and several progressive farmers from the local community.
