UP power workers call off strike after 65 hours following talks with minister

UTTAR PRADESH,MAR 19 : Uttar Pradesh’s power department employees have withdrawn their strike after 65 hours following a third round of talks between their leaders and state energy minister AK Sharma. Sangharsh Samiti convenor Shailendra Dubey announced the workers’ return to work.

The strike has been withdrawn to honor the chief minister’s call, the assurance given by the energy minister and in honour of the Allahabad High Court, Shailendra Dubey said.

The 3,000 people who were terminated will be given their jobs back, including the 22 who were charged under the Essential Services Maintenance Act and the 29 against whom cases were registered.

However, the protesting workers have not been given any assurances on paper – the minister has guaranteed that their demands will be met.
