UP man shoots mother, attacks wife with hammer, throws children off roof

UTTAR PRADESH, MAY 11 : Shockwaves ran through Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur after the news of the death of six members of a family spread in the area. A man allegedly brutally murdered five members of his family before killing himself.

The incident took place in Palapur village on Friday. As per a police report, the man, believed to be mentally ill, shot his mother dead and bludgeoned his wife with a sledgehammer, resulting in her death.

He then threw his three children off the roof of the house, killing all of them. After eliminating the five members of his family, he died by suicide.

The accused was an alcoholic and was mentally disturbed, police said.

“Today, police received information from Palapur village that a mentally ill person, named Anurag Singh aged 45 years, has allegedly killed five people of his family before committing suicide. While investigating, police found that he killed his wife aged 40, his mother aged 65, and his three children who were 12, nine, and six years old. The police and the FSL team are investigating,” Sitapur SP Chakresh Mishra was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
