Tribal man decapitated suspected witch walks seven km with severed head
Jajpur ,16/7: In a shocking incident, police arrested on Thursday a tribal man on the charges of beheading a suspected witch on Wednesday night in a tribal dominated village of Jajpur district.
After decapitating the witch, the accused walked seven kilometers with the severed head and surrendered himself before the police in the police outpost at Danagadi.
65 -year-old Nandini Purti of Chhatara village under Danagadi police outpost was killed by 38 year old Kartik Kerei of the village as the killer suspected that the deceased was a witch in this nondescript village and she was responsible for the death of his ailing brother.
Chinmaya Nayak the Sub- Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Jajpur Road said ” Sanatan Kerei(40) the brother of the accused was suffering from fever for which he had taken his ailing brother to the home of the deceased for his treatment on Tuesday as the deceased used to practice witchcraft to treat patients. The deceased also assured the accused to cure his brother. But the condition of the patient became serious for which the accused rushed his brother to SCB medical college and hospital at Cuttack on Wednesday evening . But he died on the way. The accused was under the impression that his brother died as the black magic of the deceased went wrong for which in a sudden rage he rushed to the house of Nandini and decapitated her with an axe on Wednesday night. After beheading her, the accused walked around seven km with the severed head of Nandini and turned himself in at the police station. The accused also handed over to the police an axe used in the killing”.
