Union steel secretary, SAIL-RSP visit CSIR-IMMT Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, Feb. 20 : Sri Nagendra Nath Sinha, IAS , Secretary, Ministry of Steel visited the CSIR-Institute of Minerals & Materials Technology (IMMT). He visited mineral processing pilot plant, slurry pipeline test rig, plasma processing centre, green steel section etc.

Sri Nagendra Nath Sinha, IAS , Secretary, Ministry of Steel attended a meeting  with all Heads the departments and project leaders of the Ministry of Steel funded projects which was Chaired by Dr Bhagyadhar Bhoi , Chief Scientist  & Head Advance Materials Technology.

Dr A. K. Sahu, Head, Mineral Processing Department and SPBD explained the different activities of the Institute in the Iron and Steel R&D sector. It is worth mentioning that CSIR-IMMT is carrying out different futuristic R&D works funded by Ministry of Steel , Govt of India.

Speaking on this, Sri Sinha appreciated the role of IMMT in Iron & Steel Sector R&D. He emphasized role of networking /collaboration with other institutes enhanced & quick output of project objectives. He also told about important role of institutes like IMMT  in solving the bigger challenges faced by the Industry in reducing the carbon foot print in Steel manufacturing sector and suggested  on  intervention of Information Technology , Artificial Intelligence, modelling & simulation tool for quicker and appropriate solutions to output of projects, IP protection of processes and products, easy technology transfer   for the greater interest of the iron & steel Industries. 

Mr Atanu Bhowmick , Director –in Charge SAIL-Rourkela Steel plant also visited the facilities of the Institute and appreciated the role of the institute in iron & steel sector  R&D and  He also appreciated the work of production of  Green Steel using hydrogen as reductant . SAIL-RSP is interested for a long-term association with CSIR-IMMT in regard to iron ore processing, palletisation, waste utilisation.
