SC junks Vijay Mallya’s plea against bid to declare him fugitive economic offender
NEW DELHI,MAR 3 : The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a plea filed by Vijay Mallya challenging the proceedings in a Mumbai court declaring him a fugitive economic offender and confiscating his assets.
The counsel appearing on behalf of Mallya argued in the Supreme Court that he was not able to get in touch with his client and get any instructions on the matter.
Following this, the Supreme Court dismissed the petition filed by the fugitive businessman.
“The counsel for petitioner states that the petitioner is not giving any instructions to the advocate for the petitioner. In view of this statement, the petition is dismissed for non-prosecution,” a bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Rajesh Bindal said.
Vijay Mallya, who fled to the United Kingdom in March 2016, is wanted in India over default of Rs 9,000 crore that was loaned to Kingfisher Airlines (KFA) by several banks.
