Sanjay Raut’s wife Varsha summoned by ED in land scam case

MUMBAI,AUG 4: The Enforcement Directorate has summoned Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut’s wife, Varsha, in Patra Chawl land scam case. This comes just days after Sanjay Raut was arrested by the financial probe agency in the land scam case.

The ED had arrested Sanjay Raut on Sunday midnight in connection with alleged financial irregularities in the redevelopment of Patra ‘Chawl’ (old row tenement) in suburban Goregaon and related financial property transactions involving his wife and alleged associates.

On Thursday, the ED summoned Sanjay Raut’s wife Varsha in connection with the Patra Chawl land scam case.

In January this year, Varsha Raut was questioned by the ED in connection with the PMC bank scam case. Varsha Raut’s questioning in the case was in connection with a transaction of Rs 55 lakh from one Madhuri Pravin Raut to her account.

A Mumbai court on Thursday extended the ED custody of Sanjay Raut till August 8 in a money laundering case. While extending the custody, the court noted that the ED has made “remarkable progress” in the investigation.

As per the arrest memo of Sanjay Raut, the investigative officer has alleged in the arrest memo that, “on the basis of material in my possession, have reason to believe that Sanjay Rajaram Raut, has been guilty of an offence punishable under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.”

Sanjay Raut was arrested under sub-section (1) of Section 19 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
