Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik have been divorced for ‘a few months now’, says tennis star’s family

NEW DELHI,JAN 21 : Sania Mirza’s family has spoken out about former Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik’s third marriage, saying the two have been divorced for a few months now.

Malik announced on Saturday that he had tied the knot with Pakistan TV actor Sana Javed, whom he was rumoured to be dating even as speculation was rife about his separation with Sania.

Sania’s team released a statement on Sunday, confirming that the two had been separated for a few months, calling for fans to not indulge in any speculation. The two athletes got married in 2010 and were blessed with a son, Ihzaan Mirza Malik, in October 2018.

 “Sania has always kept her personal life away from the public eye. However, today the need has arisen for her to share that Shoaib and she have been divorced for a few months now. She wishes Shoaib well for his new journey ahead! At this sensitive period of her life, we would like to request all fans and well- wishers to refrain from indulging in any speculation and to respect her need for privacy,” the statement read.

Both Malik and Sana shared photos from their wedding ceremony on social media on Saturday. The popular Pakistan actor also changed her Instagram bio from Sana Javed to Sana Shoaib Malik, confirming their wedding.

Malik and Sania celebrated their son’s 5th birthday in Dubai last year. Even when Sania played her last Grand Slam match at the Australian Open last year, Malik penned a heartfelt note, lauding her career achievements. The two sports stars even hosted a talk show together in the UAE last year.

On Saturday, Shoaib Malik turned up for Fortune Barishal in the Bangladesh Premier League 2024 against Rangpur Riders in Dhaka. His team beat Rangpur Riders by 5 wickets to kick-start their 2024 campaign with a win.
