Bhubaneswar, Oct. 21: A Day of Death Mourning Cover was released during the all-party remembrance meet on Mulayam Singh Yadav held at Jayadev Bhavan today. The cover was issued by The Mourning Cover Society of India. It was released and posted on the day of death of the popular leader called “Netaji” by his followers.
Speaking on the occasion, leaders from all parties paid tributes to the Late Mulayam Singh Yadav and his role in social engineering. The meet was attended by Ranendra Pratap Swain, Debi Mishra, Niranjan Patnaik, Suresh Routray, Rama Panda, Rabi Das, Prasanna Patsani among others.
Noted philatelist and columnist Anil Dhir, who is the Secretary of the Society said that Mulayam Singh was among the last politician who truly followed the Lohiaite socialist tradition. He was the tallest and most effective practitioners of socialism. His death is a colossal loss for the socialist firmament, not just his family, friends, or the Samajwadi.
State President Rabi Behera said that Mulayam Singh Yadav played a key role in both UP and national politics for over 45-years, becoming one of the most important figures of the non-Congress, non-BJP spectrum in the country. He was a grassroots socialist of the Lohia school, who propagated change on a bicycle which would one day become the symbol of his Samajwadi Party. From humble beginnings, he had carved out his own niche in UP’s crowded political space. He leaves behind a rich legacy of a large number of young leaders from other backward classes, many of whom he had groomed.
