‘Ready to hang myself if..’: Congress’s Tytler as CBI collects his voice sample in 1984 riots case

NEW DELHI,APR 11 : Congress leader Jagdish Tytler was summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday for recording his voice sample in 1984 anti-Sikh riots case, officials told news agency PTI.

The officials said that Tytler arrived at the Central Forensic Science Laboratory where further proceedings were underway.

After submitting his voice sample to CBI, Jagdish Tytler said, “What have I done? If there’s evidence against me, then I’m prepared to hang myself. It wasn’t related to the 1984 riots case for which they wanted my voice (sample), but another case.”

The agency has found fresh evidence in the 39-year-old riots case making it necessary to have the voice sample of Tytler, officials said.

As many as three people were killed in the riots in the Pul Bangash area.

The assassination of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her Sikh body guards in 1984 led to violent attacks on the Sikh community in the country.
