Rapist gets 20 years imprisonment

Jajpur, April 16 : The additional district session judge cum special judge Jajpur Road has sentenced a 42 year old man for 20 years of imprisonment on Saturday for gang- raping an 18 year old girl three years back in a village under Sukinda police station.
The court also imposed a fine of fifty thousand rupees on the convict and failure to pay which would result in his sentence being increased by three months .
Pronouncing the verdict in the sensational case, the additional district session judge Manas Kumar Panda convicted Sabyasachi Behera to 20 years of imprisonment under sections -376 of Indian Penal Code on the charges of gang-raping the girl on 21th April 2019 along with another miscreant .
The mother of the victim girl filed an FIR in Sukinda police station on 22nd November 2019 and alleged that the convict and another person gang-raped her daughter.
Acting on the FIR, police arrested the convict. But another accused has been evading the police net for a long time.
10 witnesses including the victim girl deposed in this case in the court. After relying on the evidence of the victim girl and others and a medical report, the court convicted the accused to 20 years of imprisonment, said Rajat Rout, the special public prosecutor of the court.
