PM to visit BJP headquarters for poll meet, big welcome planned for G20 success
NEW DELHI,SEPT 13 : A warm welcome awaits Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters in Delhi on Wednesday. He will attend the central election committee (CEC) meeting, his first after the G20 Leaders’ Summit that saw key world leaders visit the national capital.
After the completion of the global event, the BJP will now deliberate on its candidates for the upcoming state assembly elections.
Apart from PM Modi, Union ministers Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh, and BJP president JP Nadda are members of the CEC. The meeting’s agenda will focus on Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.
Names of candidates for the polls in both the states could be decided in the meeting, according to a PTI report.
CEC’s previous meeting was in August and candidates for 39 seats for the polls in Madhya Pradesh and 21 for Chhattisgarh, were selected. These were for the seats where the BJP does not have incumbent MLAs.
Assembly polls are due in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Telangana and Mizoram in November-December, the last round of state elections before the Lok Sabha contest in 2024.
Of these, the BJP is in power in Madhya Pradesh, and its ally Mizo National Front runs the government in Mizoram.
