Odisha man dies as he was administered wrong injection by quack

By Sukant Kumar Mohanty

Bhubaneswar, Nov. 19: A man at Chanabahal village in Odisha’s Bolangir district lost his life after he was allegedly administered a wrong injection by a quack on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Shiva Mahananda.

As per reports, Mahananda was cutting trees in his backyard when he injured his leg with an axe. He was bleeding profusely. So he called a quack named Pramod Mahakud from a neighbouring village. The quack administered an injection to Mahananda.

However, the injured Mahananda fell unconscious just hours after administration of the injection. His family members rushed him to Kantabanji hospital where the doctors pronounced him dead.

The family members of Mahananda alleged that the latter died because of the wrong injection the quack administered to him.

“My husband was bleeding, so he asked me to call Pramod Mahakud. Mahakud claimed he administered a Tetanus Toxoid injection. But my husband died after the injection,” said the wife of the deceased Surubali Mahananda.

Asked about the death, the on-duty doctor Debadutta Kumar said, “They have administered a tetanus injection and later gave him some water to drink. But the patient had already died before being brought to the hospital.”

“The exact reason behind his death will be known after post-mortem,” the doctor said.

Kantabanji police reached the hospital following the death and launched a probe.
