By Sukant Mohanty

Bhubaneswar, Sept 18 : The Odisha government has officially extended the tenure of Director General of Police (DGP) Y.B. Khurania until 2026. The announcement was made via a notification from the state’s Home Department.

As per the notification, Khurania, who is a 1990-batch officer, will now serve as DGP & IG of Police (HoPF) until August 16, 2026. This decision aligns with the directive outlined in the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Office Memorandum (OM) dated May 18, 1977, which mandates a minimum tenure of two years for DGPs.

“In continuation of Home Department Notification No. 29471/IPS dated 16.06.2024, the Government has been pleased to extend the service period of Shri Y.B. Khurania, IPS, DGP & IG of Police (HoPF), Odisha till 16.08.2026, to ensure his minimum tenure of two years as DGP & IG of Police (HoPF) in compliance with the OM dated 18.05.1977 issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs,” the notification stated.

Khurania’s initial appointment as DGP on August 16, 2024, did not specify a minimum tenure, despite the usual practice of granting DGPs a guaranteed two-year service period.
