Odisha girl wins gold in China Para Athletic Championship

Bhubaneswar, May 16: Jayanti Behera, a 17-year-old girl from Odisha, has brought laurels to the state by winning gold medal at the China Open Para Athletic Grand Prix Championship, – reports said on Tuesday.
On Sunday, she notched the top prize in the women’s 400 metre event by clocking a timing of 1.02 minutes, – the reports added.
Earlier, Jayanti had got silver medal in women’s 200 metre race with a timing of 28.50 seconds.
Jayanti has earlier qualified for World Para Athletic Championship to be held in London in July this year.
Notably, Jayanti’s left hand and waist were burnt in a fire mishap when she was just one-year-old.
Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has congratulated Jayanti on her achievement.
“Heartiest congratulations to Jayanti Behera, 17 yr girl from Odisha, for winning 400 mtr gold in China Open Para Athletics Championship,” Mr Pradhan tweeted.
