Odisha CM Naveen rebels rumour on health, says ‘I’m fine’

BHUBANESWAR, FEB. 18: Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday evening sought to put an end to speculations surrounding his health by saying, ‘I’m fit and in good health.’

Mr Patnaik, who along with a few senior officers and followers visited the Lingaraj temple here in the city to offer prayers, said, “Whenever there is an election in the state, rumours start doing the rounds about my health. But I can assure all of you that I am in perfect health, very happy and here to serve the people of Odisha.”

Clad in his trademark white kurta and pyjama, Patnaik, when asked if such rumours were being spread by the Opposition, refrained from making any direct reference, ostensibly owing to the Election Commission model code of conduct which is presently in force in the state for the on-going gram panchayat polls. He, however, said, “Whenever there is such rumour, you can be assured that the BJD is going to do well.”

The Chief Minister’s statement carries much significance as it came at a time when a lot of people across the state were curious to know about his health following hushed discussions about his failing health.

The Odisha CM limited himself to virtual meetings during campaigning for the rural polls.

It is believed that CM’s absence from the poll campaign might have triggered such speculations.

Meanwhile, the CM also took the opportunity to reiterate his Covid-19 cautionary message for people.

“The pandemic is still around and please do not lower your guard. Wear a mask and follow Covid appropriate behaviour,” he said.
