IIT Delhi student hangs self in hostel room due to ‘academic stress’

NEW DELHI,SEPT 2 : A 21-year-old student, identified as Anil Kumar, died by suicide inside his hostel room at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. The incident was reported on Friday at around 6 pm, when the police received a call informing them about the incident.

Upon reaching the spot, the police found the hostel room locked from the inside.

The student was found hanging after the door was broken open.

Police said the student was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

Preliminary investigations into the case revealed the student was pursuing a B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing. He was placed on an extension due to some incomplete subjects and had been staying at the hostel for the past six months.

Though the police did not recover any suicide note in the student’s room, the reason for taking such an extreme step was suspected to be academic stress.

The body was sent for postmortem and further investigations into the case were underway.
