Hundreds of trees plundered by timber mafias
Jajpur, Dec 11 : Palpable tension has mounted at village Barapada under Panikoili police station in Jajpur district on Sunday after some timber mafias cut down hundreds of trees at village Barapada on Saturday night . Police and Tehasildar rushed to the village to investigate the matter.
“The denudation of hundreds of trees sparks tension among the locals.
Some locals alleged that some sand mafias cut the trees on both sides of the roads for the smooth transport of their sand- laden trucks and other vehicles on the village road.
Many villagers filed an FIR in the police station and alleged that some persons illegally cut hundreds of trees in the village . Many agitated villagers also blocked the road and demanded stern action against the culprits . Police rushed to the spot to investigate the matters. Security forces have been deployed to check any untoward incident, said Chinmayee Behera, the IIC of Panikoili police station.
When contacted Ashok Majhi the Tehasildar of Basyanagar said ‘ After knowing about the incident, we rushed to the spot. The authorities will take stern legal action against the persons who chopped up trees’.
