Headmaster marriages for second time, wife lodges complaint
Wife lodges police complaint, says divorce petition is pending for disposal
BHUBANESWAR, FEB. 15: A school headmaster in Odisha’s Kandhamal district allegedly got married for the second time even as a petition for divorce is pending for disposal in a local family court.
Aggrieved over the development, the first wife of the teacher on Wednesday filed a police complaint seeking action against the teacher.
The bizarre incident came to light after the purported photographs of the marriage that took place on the school premises surfaced on the internet. In the photographs, the headmaster identified as Sripati Nayak of Sujamaju High School, along with another woman with ‘wedding garland’ can be seen cutting a cake in the storeroom of the school in the presence of other teachers.
Nayak’s first wife Nirupama Dakua lodged a complaint in this regard at Baliguda police station and questioned how a teacher can remarry on the school premises when the divorce case was still sub-judice.
According to sources, Nayak had married Nirupama in 2003 and they have a 12-year-old daughter.
“The headmaster of Sujamaju High School, Sripati Nayak is my husband. He has been physically and mentally torturing me for seven years now. He had filed for divorce in a family court and later withdrew it,” Dakua said.
“My husband remarried another woman on February 6 and is living with her at the storeroom of the school,” she alleged.
Nayak refuted all the allegations levelled against him and said the photographs were taken during his birthday celebrations. He, however, did not clarify as to why the woman standing beside him was wearing a “wedding garland.”
“The allegations are baseless. I have already filed for divorce and it is pending in court. The photographs which have gone viral are taken during my birthday celebrations. I threw a feast for the staff on my birthday after the school time,” Nayak said.
