Four terrorists eliminated in J-K’s Kulgam; two soldiers die in encounter
SRINAGAR, JULY 7: Four militants and two soldier were killed in ongoing twin encounters between militants and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday.
A police official said acting on specific information about the presence of militants, a joint contingent of police, CRPF and army launched a search operation in Modergam village in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district in the afternoon.
“As the security personnel were zeroing-in on the place, where the militants were hiding, they came under gunfire from the militants. The fire was returned by the troops and an army jawan sustained critical injuries in militant fire,” he said.
The injured army jawan was evacuated to nearby hospital, where he succumbed to injuries.

Additional troops were rushed to the area to tighten the siege and prevent militants, whose number is said to be between two to three, after escaping from the area. As the encounter went on, another gunfight broke out between militants and security forces in the same (Kulgam) district in Frisal Chinnigam area.
“In the firefight so far, four militants have been killed,” a police official said. “The operation was launched after security forces received inputs about the presence of a group of militants in the area,” the official said.
The security forces used helicopters and drones for aerial surveillance to detect movement of militants and track them down. The police official said the identity of the slain militants and the outfit to which they owe allegiance was being ascertained.
