Flood havoc in Jajpur

Jajpur,Aug 3: Flood due to four day long rain has wrought havoc in Jajpur district and triggered large scale devastation on Dasarathpur, Korei and Jajpur blocks. One Akshya Mallick (46 ) of Similia village drowned in the flood water on Wednesday .
His body was found by fire brigade men . Hundreds of people have been affected by the flood while people in flood-affected blocks are living a life of misery.
Though relief goods have reached them, the loss of property and damage to the agriculture fields has compounded their plight.
The flood has brought to the fore the tales of social service by some persons who helped many flood- hit people. Many flood affected people are facing shortage of drinking water.
The crisis is most severe in Dasarathpur block as the river Baitarani and its tributaries flooded many areas. Conditions for the marooned villagers are miserable.
The biggest problem, though, is drinking water. The only way to escape from marooned the flood hit areas is on one of the rescue boats that shuttle between the village and main road . Rajani Jena of Abdulpur village under Jajpur block , a 76-year-old grandmother with creased skin and gleaming eyes, sat elegantly in a crowded tent she shared with 20 relatives.
They had lost everything: houses, crops and, most precious of all, livestock. “Nobody deserves what has happened to us,” she said. Flood water entered the famous Saptamatruka temple on Wednesday. A portion of embankment on the river Kharosotra at Olichandanpur village under Binjharpur block caved on Wednesday as a result riverside villagers are panicked .
Senior officials rushed and started repair work. When contacted Chakrabati sing Rathor the District Collctor said “ Many have been affected in the flood.
We have been providing relief items to the affected people. The officials of RWSS are providing drinking water through tankers in the marooned areas and relief camps”.
BJD leader and Jajpur MLA Pranab Prakash Das,Social worker Taraprasad Mishra and others visited the flood- hit villages to provide relief items to the people .
