First morning tea of freedom: Manish Sisodia’s post featuring wife after bail
NEW DELHI, AUG 10 : Former Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister and senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia, who walked out of Tihar Jail on Friday evening after 17 months, shared a morning selfie while holding a cup of tea with his wife on social media. Expressing his emotions after serving a long time behind bars, Sisodia wrote, “First morning tea of freedom… after 17 months.”
After being released from Tihar jail on bail in the Delhi liquor policy case, Manish Sisodia encapsulates the meaning of freedom, both in terms of the Constitution, and in nature.
“First morning tea of freedom… after 17 months! The freedom that the Constitution has given to all of us Indians as a guarantee of the right to live.”
He wrote on his official X handle, “God has granted us the freedom to breathe in the open air with everyone.”
On Friday, the Supreme Court granted bail to Sisodia, stating that his long incarceration without trial had deprived him of the right to speedy justice. Notably, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is still locked up in Tihar jail in connection with the same case.
Soon after his release, Sisodia visited Arvind Kejriwal’s residence to meet his family members.
The meeting was emotional, as the Chief Minister’s wife, Sunita Kejriwal, could not hold up her tears as she met Sisodia, who shares a close bond with the family.
Sisodia also bowed down to seek blessings from Arvind Kejriwal’s parents.
“I feel indebted to Baba Saheb Ambedkar after this order. We have brought this legal battle to its logical end through the Constitution. I thank you all for being with me,” he said.
On February 26, 2023, Manish Sisodia, a key figure in the Delhi government, was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) under allegations of irregularities related to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy.
Following this, on March 9, he was also detained by the Enforcement Directorate on charges of money laundering connected to the initial CBI probe. Consequently, Sisodia stepped down from his position in the Delhi cabinet on February 28, 2023.
