Father abandons Rare ‘Intersex’ Baby

Jajpur , April 14 : In a shocking incident, a newborn baby was abandoned by the infant ‘s father in Jajpur district after he claimed that the baby has rare ‘intersex’ traits.
After knowing about this shocking incident , the district administration seeks an inquiry into the incident .Snehalata Baral the wife of Tapan Baral of village Haripur in Jajpur district gave birth to the baby with intersex traits on Wednesday in a private nursing home in Jajpur Town. Following the delivery, the father of the child allegedly ditched the baby and left the hospital after the doctor reportedly said that the baby has ambiguous genitalia.
When contacted the collector of Jajpur, Chakravarti Singh Rathore said ‘ After knowing about this incident, a three member team comprising of District Social Welfare Officer , District Child Protection Officer and Counsellor visited the private hospital and discussed with the owner of Nursing Home and counselled the mother Snehalata Baral. Both mother and child are free from danger.
The Doctors of District Headquarter Hospital has referred the child to Sishu Bhawan ,Cuttack for determination of sex/gender of the new born.
The counsellor has explained to the mother Snehalata about different schemes and facilities of the government. During counselling , it was made clear that husband and wife often quarreled with each other. On Thursday , both mother and child were discharged . The Protection Officer of the District Social Welfare Officer will visit the home of Snehalata on Friday for inquiry’.
