Drunk man kills father for opposing his liquor-addiction

Bhubaneswar, June 1: In a shocking incident, a liquor-addicted person hailing from Pipili in Odisha’s Puri district on Wednesday night killed his father as the latter opposed to his boozing habit.

According to reports, the accused would come home in a drunken state every day and allegedly assault his parents if they denied giving him money to fulfill his addiction. There were frequent quarrels in the family as his parents were fed up with his liquor addiction.

As usual, he came home drunk late Wednesday night and got into a fight with his parents. Things took an ugly turn when he chased his parents holding an axe.  Even as his parents tried to flee from the house to save their lives, the tipsy man managed to grab his father and dragged him back to the house where he hacked him to death.

On being alerted, local police rushed to the spot and detained the accused. The blood-stained axe was also recovered from the house. A case of murder was registered and further probe is on, the police said.

The incident sent a shockwave across the locality.

“The accused, according to his villagers, is a drunkard. He would always misbehave and manhandle his family members if they never met his demand for money to buy liquor. His nuisance crossed all limits on Wednesday night and killed his father. We have taken the accused to custody,” said the local Pipili police.
