‘Disqualify me for life; put me in jail, I will keep going’: Rahul Gandhi

NEW DELHI,MAR 25 : Addressing the media a day after being disqualified as the Lok Sabha MP from Kerala’s Wayanad, Congress’s Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said he was not afraid and did not care about disqualification or being jailed.

“I am not afraid and I don’t care about being disqualified for life or being jailed. I will keep doing my work. Will keep questioning PM Modi and Adani’s ties. I will continue to fight for the truth, which has now become my motto,” said the leader, who was convicted by a Gujarat court for referring to thieves as having the surname Modi.

“I have been disqualified because the Prime Minister is scared about my next speech, and I have seen it in his eyes. That is why, first the distraction and then the disqualification,” he said, raking up the Adani issue and adding, “This is the whole drama that has been orchestrated to defend the Prime Minister from the simple question- Who’s Rs 20,000 crore went to Adani’s shell companies?”

Taking up the Opposition’s demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee Probe into the Adani row a notch higher, he said, “My job is to defend the democratic nature of the country, which means defending the institutions of the country, defending the voice of the poor people of the country and telling people the truth about people like Adani who are exploiting the relationship they have with the PM.”

When asked about BJP leaders’ seeking his apology for ‘democratic’ remarks and also in connection with the 2019 defamation case, he said, “Rahul Gandhi thinks he is not Vir Savarkar. Gandhi kisi se maafi nahi maangta.”

On being asked about his former constituency, he said, “I share a relationship like family with the people of Wayanad. I will write a letter to the people of Wayanad. Modi ji said to BJP leaders that you have to divert attention. They are scared of PM Modi,” Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said.
