Community Development Project Inaugurated in Chitwan, Nepal with Financial Assistance from India

Bhubaneswar,Apr27: A community development project was inaugurated in Chitwan, Nepal on Friday with financial assistance from India. The Apron Dhungre Khola River Training Work Project constructed under ‘Nepal-India Development Cooperation’ was inaugurated by Avinash Kumar Singh, First Secretary at the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu.

The Indian Embassy said in an official statement that the project has been constructed at a total tender cost of Nepalese INR 3.67 crore. “The apron Dhungre Khola River Training Work Project in Khairahani Municipality, Chitwan, constructed with the financial assistance of the Government of India, was jointly inaugurated by Avinash Kumar Singh, First Secretary, Embassy of India, and Shashi Kumar, Mayor of Khairahani Municipality,” the Embassy said.

The project has been developed as a High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) under an agreement between the Government of India and the Government of Nepal. This project is the latest example of the strong development partnership between the two countries. Mayor Shashi Kumar during the program appreciated the continuous support of the Government of India in the upliftment of Nepali people in priority areas.

The Government of India grant has been used for river training activities in the Chitwan area for the local community people. The project will help in promoting resilience against natural disasters ranging from agricultural land erosion, deforestation, balancing river flood flows and reducing various risks associated with rivers.

Under its ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy, India is continuously helping the neighbouring country in strengthening basic infrastructure besides supporting Nepal in education and health sector as well as conservation and restoration of cultural heritage sites.
