Chetan Sharma resigns as India’s chief selector after sting operation

NEW DELHI,FEB 17: Chetan Sharma has resigned as chief selector following a sting operation by a media outlet. In the video, Chetan Sharma was heard talking about several issues and even talked about the relationship between former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and former captain Virat Kohli.

Chetan Sharma was re-appointed as a chief selector last month but the controversial sting operation landed him in a difficult situation. On Friday, Chetan Sharma sent his resignation letter to BCCI secretary Jay Shah. In the sting, Chetan was caught saying how he spent 30 minutes talking to India captain Rohit Sharma and revealed Hardik Pandya would come to his place late in the night to discuss his future.

Sharma, who was recently reinstated by the BCCI after being removed following India’s performance in the T20 World Cup in Australia, was seen casting aspersions on players such as Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah during the sting operation. During the Zee News sting, Sharma allegedly revealed internal discussions with head coach Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli.

Sharma claimed that despite being 80 to 85 percent fit, many players take injections to expedite their return to competitive cricket. The former India pace bowler also claimed that he and team management disagreed on Bumrah’s return from a stress fracture for the September T20I series against Australia. Sharma also claimed that former captain Kohli and former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly had an ego clash.

Chetan Sharma also talked at length about the fall-out between Sourav Ganguly and Virat Kohli. Chetan alleged Kohli wanted to defame the then BCCI president because he thought Ganguly had a role in his removal as India’s captain in the white-ball formats. However, Chetan said Kohli’s move backfired.
