Carcass of a female elephant found

Jajpur, Aug 10: The carcass of a female elephant was recovered from the Mahagiri forest under Sukinda range of Jajpur district on Tuesday evening.
The carcass of the elephant aged about 30 years was spotted by local residents on Tuesday near Patapur forest beat under Sukinda forest range , who informed the forest officials. As per the preliminary investigation, the carcass of the elephant was eight to ten days back, ” said Bipin Bihari Chaudhury, the forest range officer of Sukinda .
A team of forest officials rushed to the spot and sent the carcass for an autopsy. A veterinary team conducted a postmortem of the carcass and samples of its lungs, intestine and bone marrow were sent to Centre for Wildlife Health at Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT ), Bhubaneswar for testing. After getting the report from OUAT we will know the exact reason behind the death of the elephant, added the forest officer.
