Bolangir, May 4: Bullet-ridden body of a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan was on Thursday found lying in front of Sudam Charan Degree College at Chandanbhati in Odisha’s Bolangir district.
The deceased was identified as Sanjay Bag of Salepali village in the district.
Bag, who was posted at Phiringia in Kandhamal district, had come to his village to attend his brother’s marriage, sources said.
The family members of the deceased alleged that he was murdered by some miscreants.
“We strongly suspect he has gunned down by some miscreants. The police should immediately identify the culprits and arrest them,” they family members demanded.
On the other hand, tension gripped the area following the incident as irate locals staged a road blockade on the Bolangir-Chandanbhati road demanding a probe into the matter.
On being informed, Balangir sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Narayan Nayak and Town police reached the spot and started investigation.
A murder case was registered into the incident following which the locals lifted the blockade.
“As per the complaint lodged by the family members of the deceased, we have registered a case and started investigation into the incident. The police is highly optimistic that the culprits would be indentified and rounded up soon,” said SDPO Mr Nayak.
“It will be very premature to say if Nayak was killed by local miscreants over some rivalry or by Left-Wing Extremism elements,” the police officer said while answering queries by media if it was handiwork of rebels.
